In simple term, manual therapy is an umbrella term to describe a variety of hands-on techniques to treat an injury.
The techniques can include manipulation/mobilisations of joints, muscle energy techniques, distractions and soft tissue releases, instrument assisted soft tissue release, massage, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching , trigger point therapy, dry needling, and strapping.
Manual therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions including but not limited to osteoarthritis, tendinitis, fasciitis, as well as more acute injuries such as ligament sprains and strains or joint subluxation. It is often very effective in reducing pain and stiffness and getting you moving faster and more efficiently.
